Ren Fest 2011

We have an annual tradition – to visit the Louisiana Renaissance Festival. This year is our third year to go as a family. We never see all there is to see – so this visit we went a day early to spend the night closer to the fest. That way we would have all day to partake in the activities.

A great time was had by all especially the girl. She racked up with loads of stuff. It is great fun to make her happy – so we indulge her.

Next year I am thinking about donning a costume. Your first visit to a Renaissance Festival is a culture shock. You will see some dressed in costumes ranging from fair maidens, brave knights, Willy Wonky(who let that guy in?), barbarians, Vikings – you just never know. You might expect some of those costumes but others will leave you baffled like that guy dressed as Dr. Who(he must be time traveling?). Unlike the SCA(Society for Creative Anachronism), folks at the Ren Fest will not be checking your costume for historical accuracy – which is why Willy and the Doctor can attend. If you care not to dress like you are from the Middle Ages, then dress however you want. That great costume you bought but did not wear Halloween because you feared being ridiculed? Wear it to the Ren Fest and blend in. You may even get a compliment or your picture taken.

For those who have never been to a Ren Fest or Ren Faire, you are missing out. We look forward to going every year. The shows are fun, the costumes are entertaining, and everyone is so nice. There’s no harsh words even if you have to wait in line. Everyone is having such a good time and it shows. It’s nice to be around so many folks just enjoying their day in another world.

We are making another trip in December and plan on visiting another Ren Fest next year.
